Policy - Household Members By-Law Home
Criteria
A Household is a group of individuals having a common kinship living together at the same physical postal address and “household representative” means an individual of the household designated by them to represent the household in dealing with the corporation.
Kinship refers to relationships that exist between individuals who have blood ties, affinal relationships such as spousal, in-laws, and step-siblings plus those with extended relationships through dependency for care in various forms.
For formal by-law definitions of the above, see Section 01 Definitions.
Membership in Scots of Canada as a Household Member is open to any household that meets the definition of Household above and which has a connection with Scottish culture and heritage by reason of birth, descent or inclination.
Membership as just an individual or a family is not possible with Scots of Canada. The concept of an extended family aka "household," as more closely aligned with traditional Scottish culture, is used for this membership class.
A household will consist of one or more individuals with one individual specifically designated by the household as being the Household Representative. The Household Representative will be the contact person for joining, renewing, maintaining Scots of Canada's information about the household up-to-date.
Most importantly, the Household Representative will be the person casting a vote on behalf of the household in elections and other matters requiring representation of the household. Although Households are not formally a voting member of the Corporation, their input is accomplished through their Household Representatives.
Household representatives will vote for one or more Household Delegates, a voting sub-class of the Scots of Canada.
Admission as a Household Member
Joining Scots of Canada as a Household requires an individual in the household to complete an application form that typically will be web or mobile app based. Other mechanisms may be implemented per the discretion of the Board of Directors. The application form will usually be completed by the household representative and is only acceptable upon payment of the requisite membership fee(s) for a Household Membership.
Household Member Requirements
There is a minimum set of requirements for becoming and maintaining membership in the Household class such as
- Completion of the membership application and payment of membership fees.
- Designation of a Household Representative with name and email.
- Listing of individuals by name, year of birth and, optionally, email address
- Regular maintenance of Scots of Canada's information about the household
